Update:
Hey! Just wanted to say that a huge storm has been created on Twitter today as people realised Patreon aren't providing enough info for us to pay taxes, and they should actually be doing all of this FOR us. Patreon has taken down all their terms, as well as their taxation page, so they might be investigating and updating right now with new terms. I hold my breath as I wait for my verdict. Right now, it seems like regardless if Patreon does my VATMOSS for me, or if I have to do it myself, I will be able to continue my Patreon as usual - but only if Patreon gives me the info that the legally need to provide me. I'll keep you all updated, but there's no need to pull your Patreons or patronage yet. Thank you as always!



Hello everyone! I have an update regarding my Patreon.

As some of you might know, EU has - from january 1st - a new taxes system on digital goods and services called VATMOSS. Essentially it means if someone in an European country buys something digital, you instantly have to pay taxes on that. In THE CUSTOMER’S country. This means you have to register as tax payer in every EU country where you have a digital customer. This might even apply to non-digital sales starting next year.

Sadly, this also applies to Patreon. A lot of my friends have closed down their Patreons because of this. I am currently unsure of what to do. Currently, I have one patron in an EU country that’s not Sweden. This means I’ll have to register for VATMOSS in their country. I'd have to register individually to all other future EU patrons' countries I’ll have. I’m really not sure what to do right now.

And Patreon is apparently not providing any kind of help for this at all.

I will continue to post paid and unpaid posts for now, but I just wanted to post a heads up that I might have to close my Patreon - like so many others are doing - or keep it to Swedish people + non-EU people only. I simply can’t handle all of the extra work it’d mean if I have patrons in EU (but outside Sweden) right now. I will keep you updated.

Also PLEASE sign this petition to help us get a lower limit on sales, as you currently start paying taxes at just one cent (which is frankly outrageous).
